Productivity and efficiency are not the same

A split-screen shop dashboard showing productivity and efficiency as different numbers

Productivity and efficiency are cousins, not twins. A technician can be excellent on sold work and still miss productivity because the day is full of waiting, interruptions, or jobs that were never ready to start.

Use productivity to ask whether billed work actually filled the paid day. Use efficiency to ask how fast the technician moved the work that was already sold and in motion.

Productivity = billed hours ÷ clocked hours
Efficiency = billed hours ÷ hours spent on sold work
